In the late 1990′s, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) developed the BRC Food Technical Standard in an effort to evaluate manufacturers of retailers own brand food products. Although obtaining the BRC Global Food Standard is not a legal obligation, it has been created to assist retailers and brand owners to develop food products of consistent safety and quality.
